The Joyful Rebellion: Building Audacious Leaders
Published 22 days ago • 2 min read
Welcome to The Joyful Rebellion!
Because setting boundaries, resting well, and building healthier systems is radical.
🧪What's New In the Lab
We are entering my favorite time of year! Even though it never really feels like fall in Florida, I love the changing of the season, the opportunity to slow down after the busy energy of summer, and the myriad opportunities to spend time connecting, celebrating, and feeling joyful.
I'm also looking forward to joining my fellow Nerd Nite St. Pete bosses for a retreat with other Nerd Nite hosts from across the country, where we can connect, learn from each other, and nerd out!

✍🏽 The Better Boundaries Brief
This week’s edition: Promoted Beyond Your Skillset? Why Leadership Training Is a Workplace Boundary Issue
Have you ever worked for a manager who lacked the skills to lead? It happens more often than you think: 82% of the time, according to one study. In this edition, I explore how failing to invest in leadership training is a workplace boundary issue. When poorly trained managers lead, it damages morale, psychological safety, and performance. I also tie in insights from my latest podcast episode of Work is Third with Danielle Roberts, where we talk about redefining work, leadership, and success from the inside out.
This week’s highlight: Astonished, Authentic, and Audacious: Redefining Work withDanielle Roberts
Do you have the audacity to live life on your own terms?
Danielle Roberts, known as the Anti-Career Coach, joins me for a raw and inspiring conversation about redefining our relationship to work, navigating grief, and choosing authenticity. Danielle shares her journey of becoming sober, the lessons she’s carried from losing her mom at a young age, and how those experiences shaped her philosophy on work, joy, and boundaries.
The words we use to describe leaders have real-life implications. In addition to telling us about what an organization does or does not value, they also influence how employees make decisions about their career path and their potential to advance. Gender bias is real, and women often receive both conflicting and more vague feedback, putting them at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to job opportunities, promotions, and recognition.
“We're promoting people who, yes, can hit their performance targets, but struggle to connect with their employees on an individual human level.” ~Danielle Roberts, Why Working Harder Isn’t Working, TEDxEustis
