The Joyful Rebellion: What It Means to Honor the Way Forward

Welcome to The Joyful Rebellion!

🧪What's New In the Lab

January has been so full! A highlight was attending the first Under the Sun Chat of 2026 with Amplify Women Tampa Bay featuring Jennifer Addabbo, Co-founder and CEO of Engage fi. I loved so much about the conversation but more than that, I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with other women leaders and changemakers, including some of my book club besties, Rene Clayton and Nicole Waters (pictured below).

Nicole is the founder of Amplify Women Tampa Bay, and I'm honored to be the featured guest for February's Under the Sun Chat. Join me if you're local!

What Happens When You Truly Commit to Yourself | Healing, Legacy & Self-Love with Ger Carriere

Did you catch our first episode of the year with Geraldine "Ger" Carriere? Ger is a singer, artist, author, dancer, and serial entrepreneur. She originally hails from the small Metes settlement Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, and uses her platform to help women and Indigenous youth to find healing through the creative process.

Ger is a powerhouse, and I couldn't think of a better way to start the year than to focus on legacy, healing, and making a commitment to yourself.

Such a deep, reflective conversation, and here's one of my favorite quotes:

"People have paved the way for you to be doing what you're doing right now. And if you were to actually hold that as sacredly as it is, how differently would you live?"

📊Data That Matters

Research from McKinsey finds that over 50% of employees are dissatisfied — and some may be acting as “force multipliers” for low morale.

In an article on how to identify employee disengagement, the authors identify 6 employee types — from “quitters” to “thriving stars” — and offer a quick quiz to help managers understand where their teams fall on the satisfaction spectrum (not pictured below: "double dippers" who hold two or more jobs simultaneously).

Why this matters

Identifying how satisfied your employees are is a starting point for:
• Targeted retention efforts
• Career development conversations
• Strategic well-being initiatives

Leaders who intentionally move employees toward higher engagement make a strategic choice that benefits both people and performance.

💬Quote of the Week

📓 Journal Prompt

Who paved the way for me to be here, and how might I live differently if I truly treated that legacy as sacred?

What is one small commitment I can make this week that supports my well-being and strengthens the spaces I’m part of?

January 25th is the anniversary of my dad passing away from lung cancer. This year, I'm committed to again doing the Fight For Air Climb - Tampa to raise money for the American Lung Association.

🌞 Affirmation of the Week

I honor those who came before me by caring for myself, using my voice, and choosing work and relationships that allow me to thrive.

Closing Reflection

Legacy is about the stories we carry and the stories we will create in the future, and it’s also about how we show up right now. When we commit to ourselves, we change the energy we bring into our work, our communities, and our relationships. And when leaders pay attention to engagement, satisfaction, and well-being, they’re not just managing morale, they’re shaping culture.

As you move through this week, I invite you to reflect on what it would look like to honor your own needs with the same care and intention you offer others. That choice is where meaningful change begins.

👉 If you’re curious about collaborating this year—through speaking, facilitation, or strategic support—reach out. Let’s imagine what’s possible together.

Leadership isn't a title. It's how you show up. The Joyful Rebellion | April 27, 2026 @thedawnlab

Welcome to The Joyful Rebellion! Because setting boundaries, resting well, and building healthier systems is radical. 🧪What's New In the Lab "You're either a leader everywhere or nowhere." This quote is from Abby Wambach's Wolfpack, which was my book club's pick for April. We had a rich conversation exploring what it means to be a leader and how we show leadership in our actions every day. There were so many great lessons in this short but impactful book, but one takeaway for me is this:...

Reclaiming Connection in a Disconnected World. Connection is the point. The Joyful Rebellion | April 13, 2026. @thedawnlab

Today's photo is of me in a tree at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival. One of my favorite things to gather with friends to enjoy play on a grand scale. Why am I sharing this? Life feels heavy lately, and I hope you take this as a reminder to find moments of levity, joy, and connection wherever you can. And don't let...

Prioritizing what matters (before work decides for you). The Joyful Rebellion, March 30, 2026, @thedawnlab on a soft yellow and teal background.

Welcome to The Joyful Rebellion! Because setting boundaries, resting well, and building healthier systems is radical. 🧪What's New In the Lab Sometimes you just need a break. Earlier this month, I found myself feeling like I was hurtling through the year at a breakneck pace. I also realized that I work best when I have time - to think, to explore, to create, and to change my mind. So before I get too deep into the year, I decided to take a step back and just breathe. I spent time in snowy...
